Urgent Relief: Morocco Earthquake

start a fundraising campaign Send a Note

Report

On Friday, September 8, 2023, a 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck Morocco at around 11:11 PM local time. The epicenter was located in the High Atlas mountain range, about 72 kilometers (44.7 miles) southwest of Marrakech. It is said to be the deadliest earthquake to hit Morocco in over 60 years.

The earthquake caused widespread damage, with more than 2800 people killed and over 2500 injured. Many buildings were destroyed or damaged, including homes, schools, and hospitals. The earthquake also caused landslides and rockfalls, which have blocked roads and made it difficult to reach some of the affected areas.

Rescue workers are still working to find survivors and provide aid to those who have been affected. The earthquake has had a devastating impact on the people of Morocco, and the country is in need of urgent assistance.

According to Nasser al’Qahtani, Multiply’s Regional Team Leader for North Africa and the Middle East, local church leaders like Brother Saleh, a key partner in the region, have gathered local disciples to respond to this disaster by purchasing basic supplies and distributing them to survivors in Jesus' name. “Saleh has asked us to pray for his nation,” said Nasser, “and to assist the Moroccan church with whatever funds we can spare to provide much-needed relief to the people who have been affected by this disaster. Thank you for your generosity.”

The following are some of the key things that are needed:

  • Food and water
  • Shelter
  • Medical supplies
  • Clothing
  • Building materials

Your donation to this project will help our brothers and sisters in Morocco meet these urgent needs.
